I was born and raised in a small town in Northwest Tennessee. Although, I loved English and reading in high school, I was convinced an English degree equated to starvation! So, I chose the next most logical major - Chemical Engineering- and worked in a hard hat and steel toed boots for several years. Now I live in South Carolina with my husband and two children. In between school and homework and soccer practices, I love to get lost in another world, whether its Regency England or small town Alabama.
Slow and Steady Rush surprised me. I was expecting a cute sports-themed romance, which I did get, but also there was so much more. This was an extremely moving story of a girl who left her hometown feeling like a complete outsider, only to return and find the home she has always longed for.
Darcy Wilde is a librarian in Atlanta, but she has to return to her hometown of Falcon to care for her grandmother who raised her. In many ways, things appear to be exactly the same as they were in high school, but the more Darcy looks around she isn't sure if it's the town that has changed or if it's her.
Robbie Dalton is determined to make his roots in Falcon, Alabama, but first he has to lead the high school football team to a win. After a youth spent moving around foster homes, Robbie longs for a home. He knows that in order to stay on another year, he has to turn the team around and get them winning but it seems that not everyone in the town of Falcon is rooting for Robbie to pull it off.
Darcy and Robbie have some sizzling chemistry, but it's the behind the scenes things that Robbie does that wins me over. Robbie has a huge heart, but he is determined not to let Darcy see it. He looks after her grandmother, mentors the kids on the team, and is just simply amazing.
I know I'm being a little vague, but I really don't want to spoil anything in the story. While sports play a big part of the story, family and friendship is a much stronger theme. I really enjoyed it.
