Review: Bound by Night by Larissa Ione

This book is available September 24, 2013

(Goodreads Blurb)
The first installment in a sexy new paranormal romance series by Larissa Ione, author of the bestselling Demonica series!

A WOMAN OUT FOR BLOOD
Nicole Martin was only eight years old when the vampire slaves rose up in rebellion and killed her family. Now she devotes her life to finding a vaccine against vampirism, hoping to wipe out her memories—along with every bloodsucker on the planet. But there’s one thing she cannot destroy: her searing, undeniable attraction for the one man she should hate and fear the most . . .

A VAMPIRE OUT FOR REVENGE
A member of the renegade vampire MoonBound Clan, Riker is haunted by demons of his own. When he recognizes Nicole and remembers how her family enslaved his loved ones, his heart burns for vengeance. But when he kidnaps Nicole and holds her in a secret lair, his mortal enemy becomes his soul obsession, his greatest temptation, and, perhaps, his only salvation—a hot-blooded lover who could heal him with her touch . . . or bury him forever.

I received an ARC of Bound by Night from Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.  This is my first Larissa Ione book and I will say that I will be reading more.

Despite her family's involvement with Daedalus, Dr. Nicole Martin has always tried to give vampire's a very wide berth.  At Daedalus, Nicole researched vampire physiology and studied vampire blood samples, looking for clues and cures to help the human race.

After the Martin family stole his wife and then drove her to her death, turned-vampire, Riker, has been set on revenge.  As a member of the MoonBound Clan, Riker helps a party raid Daedalus and kidnap Nicole.  He never dreamed that she could enter his world, heal his body, and claim his heart.

The author had a unique take on vampires.  I liked that their temperature ran warmer than humans rather than colder.  I liked that even though it was difficult for the vampires to have children, it was still a possibility.  I liked that the vampires were not indestructible.

I enjoyed this story, but it left me with a lot of questions.  Plus, some of the characters and situations were set in place with the obvious intent to set up for the next book in the series.  I will probably give the next book a chance to answer some of those questions before I make a final judgement.

31/2 our of 5 stars
