Katie McGarry has proven herself over and over. From her debut of Pushing the Limits to her lessons in Brotherhood down on Thunder Road, Katie has captured my heart again and again. When I saw that she had a new stand-alone contemporary YA romance coming out, I knew that I had to get my hands on it quickly. I am so incredibly thankful that I had the opportunity to read an ARC of Say You'll Remember Me.
Drix is my favorite kind of character. He is a 'bad boy' with a good heart.
"I've got the good boy cut with the bad boy stride."After serving time in prison for a crime he didn't commit, he is coming home to be a part of a program offering second chances to juveniles to get their life straightened out. Knowing he was protecting someone he loved, but not knowing exactly who, is wearing on Drix's soul. Fighting his circumstances and prejudices takes all of Drix's focus. He doesn't have time for spoiled little rich girls, no matter how beautiful her eyes may be.
Elle is the governor's daughter. She always does what she is told to do. She is a good girl longing to spread her wings and forge her own path. Her father's Second Chance program puts her and Drix on a collision course. Elle knows that she should stay away, but
"It was nice to meet you," he says with all the smooth edginess that can only belong to a gentle rebel. It's like his voice was created to slay unsuspecting hearts.
Though they attempt to stay apart, Elle and Drix find they are undeniably drawn to each other. Sure, there is the physical attraction, but the more they each learn about the other, the further they fall over the edge.
"Using the slightest pressure, Elle coaxes me to turn my arm so she can further investigate the worn brown leather that's tied together by multiple black cords in a lace pattern. I'm pliant, moldable as she moves me one way, then the next. I briefly close my eyes as each brush of her skin against mine feeds this liquid warmth into my veins."
This story is rich with emotion and hope. It's the story of finding your true self and having the courage to make other people see you for who you are inside. The characters are vibrant and sassy. The secondary characters make me long for talk of sequels. This is a world I would love to live in for many years to come.
