#LetItGo - My Story + Giveaway

#‎LetITGo‬ day all stemmed from Ann Aguirre's title, I WANT IT THAT WAY. One of the characters finds freedom when he lets something go that he had been holding on to. In the book, you see him physically do something to represent the act of letting it go and then finding peace. While reading, the wheels started turning! We all need to have a day to let things go. We've all had those moments when things play over and over in our head, when we hear the whispers of being told we're not good enough, when we find ourselves paralyzed by something. Some of us are affected by this in ways we think others could not possibly understand. So...#LetItGo day was formed. In the midst of ugly and dark things happening all around, we want to focus on freedom and finding peace. And September 3rd, 2014 is that day. The sky is the limit in how you want to celebrate and share it with your readers and followers on your blog and social media. Tell what freedom and peace mean to you, Tell about a time you had to #LetItGo, take pics of you doing a #LetItGo ceremony. Whatever...but this world has a lot of heartache. And we don't have to hold on to things. We want freedom and peace to reign! So join in on September 3rd and #LetItGo!
Like many of you, I struggle with feelings of inadequacy.  I am an awkward person.  Social interaction scares the crap out of me and the thought of actually having a conversation with a human being sometimes physically paralyzes me.  Forming friendships is often near impossible because always, in the back of my mind is the voice questioning why that person would want to be friends with me.  Surely, there is a hidden agenda in there some where.  In the spirit of letting go, I have decided to share my story.  This is something that up until now, I have only ever told my husband.

When I was in 2nd grade (what is that, around 7 years old?), there was a man who began to spend a lot of time with my family.  I remember he ended up buying my brother and I elaborate, expensive birthday gifts. He took me on a Barbie shopping spree where I ended up purchasing just about every Barbie product that was on the market 30 years ago.  I got the Barbie Dreamhouse, the Jeep, the Pool, and many other things that I cannot even remember right now.  For my brother, this man purchased a band new 3-wheeler.

Our family never had much money so my brother and I thought that we had died and gone to Heaven.  It turns out that this was not the case.  This man often volunteered to babysit my brother and I while my parents went out.  It was then that this man began to make advances that no little girl should ever have to face.

It started as an arm around my shoulders or a pat on my knee.  It soon advanced to caresses and kisses on the mouth.  I will say that things never progressed to him touching me beneath my clothes (thank you, God), but what he did caused enough damage to affect me for a lifetime.

I declare today, September 3, 2014 as the day I take my life back.  To make room for that life, I let go of the first kiss ever given to me.  I let go of all of the touches and words that never should have been mine to deal with.  Most of all, I let go of all of the feelings of shame and inadequacy that have plagued me for way too many years.

About I WANT IT THAT WAY:

Nadia Conrad has big dreams, and she’s determined to make them come true. But between maintaining her college scholarship and working at the local day care to support herself, dating’s the last thing on her mind. Then she moves into a new apartment and meets the taciturn yet irresistible guy in 1B….

Daniel Tyler has grown up too fast. Becoming a single dad at twenty turned his life upside down—and brought him heartache he can’t risk again. Now, as he raises his four-year-old son while balancing a full-time construction management job and night classes, the last thing he wants is noisy students living in the apartment upstairs. But one night, Nadia’s and Ty’s paths cross, and soon they can’t stay away from each other.

The timing is all wrong—but love happens when it happens. And you can’t know what you truly need until you stand to lose it.

"A tender, sweet, and sexy story about how life—and falling in love—can never be planned."
—Jennifer L. Armentrout, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Wait for You
