Hell is looking for a way to break loose…Thank you to Entangled Publishing for offering an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Jax lost the genetic lottery. Descended from Cain, the world's first murderer, he's plagued by a curse that demands violence in exchange for his happiness. He left everything behind, including the girl he loved, but thriving on the pain of others is lonely… And it's killing him.
After a series of heartbreaking losses, Samantha put rubber to pavement and headed for college as fast as her clunker could carry her. But she can't outrun her problems. When an attack at school drives her back home, she's thrown into the path of a past—and a guy—she's been trying to forget.Sam strains Jax's control over his darkness, but running isn't an option this time. Someone—or, something—followed her home from school: a ruthless monster with a twisted plan centuries in the making. Forced together to survive, and fighting an attraction that could destroy them both, Jax and Sam must stop a killer bent on revenge.
Ruined is a smoking hot, angst-filled read. It’s a love story, but its also a hate story; no, but really its a love it story. OK, even I'm confused reading that. Read Ruined, you will get it, trust me. Its pretty damn good.
Cain and Abel's descendants are still atoning for Cain's original sin. If you don't know Cain and Abel's story from the bible, don't fret, Jus Accardo will catch you up. Anyway, every few generation's Cain's descendant is born with a demon inside of him. Total bummer because life with a demon stuck inside you is violent and usually short. Jax Flynn is the newest vessel for Cain's demon. Jax has a fucked up family history and an equally disastrous life.
Ruined begins with Jax returning to his hometown. Samantha Merrick is the girl next door, literally. She is part of the reason Jax skipped town. He loves her, but his demon just isn't having it. Jax isn't exactly a shining beacon of control; so he splits to spare Sam any undoubted misery he would cause. Chase, Jax's brother, and the Abel to his Cain, is the other reason. He's a total douche and Jax's demon absolutely loathes him. I don't want to tell any one too much of the plot in my review, just wanted to lay down the basics.
Understand this: There is so much sexual tension in this book that you would literally need a chainsaw to cut through it. Like, fucking hell is there tension. I, like all living, breathing hot-blooded women love me some sexy tension. After attempted kiss and insane sexual fantasy number eight or something, I was beginning to get literary blue balls and dammit, I got really impatient. This ain't some Twilight shit though folks, so don't get it twisted. There is eventually follow through and it's worth the pain.
Ruined is gritty, sexy, full of colorful language and it doesn't shy away from the ugly side of life. Jus Accardo is witty as hell and writes awesome banter; if anything, I just became a huge fan of her and will be reading her other books ASAP. Ruined got off to such a fucking rip-roaring start; a badass take on a Bible story, dark characters and a really promising plot. That is a Betty Crocker caliber recipe for awesome if I have ever seen one. I found that in the middle-ish it started to really fizzle and become redundant for me. Opinions are like assholes though, and I'm definitely an asshole. Ruined is earning all the good reviews that its getting, it really is pretty awesome. I will absolutely, most definitely be waiting for the next in this series, I cannot wait to read more of Jax and Sam's story.
